What are the Egos, what do they do?The main page gives a brief description of what Gnosis is, but really it is a starting point or foundation, on which to build our understanding, because information or knowledge is nothing without understanding and many people are barking up the wrong tree for arcane knowledge when they should be looking "closer to home". Firstly before we go chasing for mystical experiences, we have to start looking at our internal world or psychology. Our psychology is a mystery to us, but should not be, it is made up of millions of components called egos (we don't have one ego, we have millions!) which are like lots of little "selves" or psychological defects. The Ancient Egyptians called them the Red Demons of Seth; the Buddhists regarded them as psychological aggregates, either way, they were regarded as something destructive and undesirable. The Egos within us "steal" our creative energies, lower our spiritual vibration and stop us doing our spiritual work, and give us pain and karma when we do their bidding. So we need to clear them out! It's like planting food crops in a feed full of brambles and weeds; you have to clear your "internal land" first before you plant, or your crops get smothered! When an individual is totally driven by ego states, they are in a state of profound unconsciousness, they are ASLEEP. It is because of the active presence of the egos, that we cannot maintain the blissful states afterwards, which we may have achieved in our meditation practises. Many people fear they cannot live without their egos, saying that they would not be unable to survive in modern society, which is why tackling the ego has always provoked reactions in the past. This is a fallacy, because when an individual does a conscious work against their egos, they are "stealing light from the dark", because they retain the knowledge of how an Ego works inside them, they take back the Essence (Divine spark) that is bottled up within it, and remove the influence of the defect on their psychology. Understanding and then removing egos from our psychology allows us the best of both worlds because we increase our spiritual vibration and can recognise and understand the same egos in other people, (without judging them). This power to know how they think and feel, (because we have come to "know" ourselves first) gives us greater skills in facilitating, empathising and problem solving. It helps us to be assertive, without being aggressive and it helps us to learn when, where and how to let go, when we need to!. This "Great work" seems continuous but is permanent and will last for subsequent lifetimes if we also make an effort not to re-in force the egos in between. At the level of the human psyche/soul, what better way can you think of to clear negative life patterns, than by stopping this part of your psychology sucking you dry of any inspiration or motivation to move your life forward?. This information is a tiny part of the secret teachings of the Ancient Mystery schools, which are now being unveiled. © Gnostic Cultural Association S.A.W. 2006 |
